With a worldwide pandemic, record unemployment, social injustices and record-breaking weather events, it’s no question that 2020 was a pretty crappy year. Travel, the thing we love the most became impossible and we couldn’t see our family and friends. Yes, we couldn’t host trips for all you wonderful people, but there was still some silver linings.

From digital music and charity events to launching our new ‘Shut Up & Listen’ Campaign, below is a list of our 2020 highlights. Let’s all leave the year behind with a glimmer of optimism.

1. We Got Musical

Back at the beginning of the year when musical events were a thing, and social distancing wasn’t, we launched our GalaxyROOM and CourtROOM sessions. We can’t wait to get these back up and running later on this year! Rest assured we will be getting some awesome musical acts to bless our unique venues very soon. Don’t miss out!

2. We showed our support for International Women’s Day

At Clink, we’re all about supporting great causes, and what better cause is there than International Women’s day! The ‘Feminist Club Store’ came to visit and did a wonderful little pop-up store at ClinkNOORD.  Let’s give it up for the mums, nans and sisters people… hoorah!

3. We got Digital

Although Covid played havoc with our events calendar this year we still managed to have some fun and keep both our guests and virtual fans entertained. We held online pub quizzes, live musical performances and ClinkCREATIVE at home art sessions and even a spot of digital bingo! The fun doesn’t stop at Clink.  You can checkout the live music from our Instagram live videos on our Youtube channel.

4. Eco & CocoMAMA joined the Clink Family

2020 saw Clink purchased two more hostels, Ecomama and Cocomama. Oozing with cool and a boutique-like feel but smaller than our current hostels, we like to think of them as our younger siblings. Make sure you check them out in 2021 when travel is back up and running.

Check out Ecomama & Cocomama!

5. We got creative

At Clink, we don’t like to do things by the book. This is especially true when it comes to the decorating of our social areas and dorm rooms. Like many people during Covid, we thought it was time to do a bit of DIY and get creative! Thanks Olesia Kotvyk for your rendition of Van Gogh’s famous ‘Starry Night’.

6. We Launched ‘Shut Up & Listen!’

The global pandemic inspired us to give back to our global community. We decided it was time for us to stand up as a company and make the world a better place. So in September, we partnered up with loads of great charities and pledged to give away 1000 free beds to volunteers. Although it’s been tricky to hold any charitable events this year we still managed to host 150 Extinction rebellion volunteers and have started working with Taste Before You Waste in Amsterdam and a handful of other companies and charities. We have big plans for 2021 so make sure you check out our Shut Up and Listen campaign and get involved!  The below photograph shows our team working saving food from the bin with Taste Before You Waste!

8. We had a laugh

In September we partnered up with ‘That Comedy Thing’ and launched our in house comedy nights in our TheGALAXYROOM. We laughed so hard our sides hurt! These events will be back with a vengeance in 2021 so keep your eyes peeled at our events calendar once it’s back up and running.

9. ClinkNOORD turned 5

”Go shorty, it’s your birthday, we’re gonna party like it’s your birthday!” Well, sort of… Our Covid-19 health and safety measures limited the celebrations for ClinkNOORD’s 5th birthday but we still had a great time. We did a spot of Glowga, we had an epic Art Jam, and held a Meet The Makers beer tasting session with our friends and beer extraordinaire, Oedipus Brewery. The good thing about birthdays is that they happen every year, so if you’re getting FOMO don’t worry, ClinkNOORD’s 6th birthday will be extra special!

10. We had some interesting video meetings

After what seemed like thousands of zoom calls our team decided to inject a bit of fun into our daily meetings. Shout out to Matt who took it upon himself to don his daughters’ princess outfit for the day. Good work Matt, very committed!

We hope that our highlights of 2020 have given you a reason to smile today. We would love to hear about your highlights of 2020 too, get in touch with us on Facebook and Instagram! Remember in tough times, the only way is up. Let’s make 2021 a year to remember but for the right reasons this time!
