This past month has been another busy and exciting one for Moving Mountains and particularly for our staff and supporters in the UK! We’ve had seven of our Kenyan staff and trustees (Francis Kioni, Rosie Gathirimu, Gilbert Njeru, Eva Muronji, Kelly Kioko, Kevin Ouma and Jackton ‘OT’ Otieno) and five of our Nepalese staff and trustees (Ang Chhongba Sherpa, Lhakpa Sherpa, Pasang Tendhi Sherpa, Saraswoti Sherpa and Geljun Sherpa) visiting the UK (thanks to Adventure Alternative) for a series of get togethers and promotional events with some of our fantastic supporter groups and schools.
They were also over to attend and celebrate the wedding of our founder and Chairman Gavin Bate! Gilbert and Eva are now working in our Northern Ireland office for the next few weeks before heading back to Kenya for new year. Find out more about what they got up to on their visit by reading a blog piece by Gilbert here!
Street Soccer in Embu!
In December we’ll be running our second annual ‘Street Soccer Tournament’ in Embu. Last year’s inauagral tournament was a great success with participation of lots of local teams and organisations and we’re very happy to be running it again this year.
It’s been a great way of raising the profile of the street children and the role of Embu Rescue Centre and the work of the Black Cats, as well as a way of helping to include the older street children into the community and build links and friendships with other organisations, including Aphia Plus who are helping with the administration of the event.
If you missed it last time, you can read a blog from last year’s tournament here. There’s also a great video from the event which you can watch here! Good luck to the Black Cats teams who are participating next week!
