Life is better when it’s filled with music, art and creativity. That’s our take on it at least. And if you’re browsing round these parts, we reckon you probably agree.
A stay in a new city should be all about exploration and discovery. And if you’re staying at Clink, this starts right at the hostel door. ClinkCREATIVE is our collection of programmes set up to engage guests and local communities with artists, musicians and creatives in exciting cities.
The flow of art and music brings our buildings to life, generating a dynamic atmosphere for guests to soak up and new things to discover. The programmes create and share value and experiences and each aims to:
- Offer creatives/artists a place to create/produce/perform and an audience to explore their work
- Promote upcoming artists and bands through the Clink Community and beyond
- Bring unique pieces and performances of art, creativity or music to guests and the community. Often exhibiting work that would otherwise be completely unseen
- Engage and connect artists, travellers and the local community such that a unique shared experience is created
We invite musicians to play a gig and stay for free! Artists can put on workshops in our C-Lab (ClinkNOORD) and exhibit to an eclectic bunch of guests who pass through the hostels every day. Creatives can come and stay for free in return for a canvas, written work or a room piece. Local artists and performers can bring their ideas to life in our spaces and engage with an audience of curious explorers. These are just a few ways to get involved!

Stay & Create
‘Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.’ – Pablo Picasso
We’re real believers in exploring life’s big questions. And what better way to do that than by making art? That said, it’s not always cheap or easy to find the space and time to flex those creative muscles. Stay & Create is about providing up and coming artists with accommodation and space to work on creative projects in return for pieces to display in the hostels. We’ve been so inspired by some of the artists who’ve already come to stay with us. They’ve asked questions about identity, community, environment – and more. Their work makes us feel more connected to our communities and encourages us to see ourselves as part of a larger global narrative. Between our locations, through art and human interaction, we’re trying to build connections between people and place – something that we think is really important to the guests that come to stay with us. If you’re an artist who likes the sound of the Stay & Create mission, let us know – we’d love to work with you!
The C-Lab (Amsterdam)
‘The only way to thrive is to innovate. It’s that simple.’ – Alex Tabarrok
We’ve got some nifty little spaces in our hostels – perfect ‘pop-up’ spots, if you will. If you’ve got work you want to show off, a winning idea you want to shout about, or a cause you want to get behind, then this could be the place for you. Innovation is king when it comes to pop-ups. Without the costs and admin involved in renting a large premises, you’re free to try something new and different! Come test the waters with your new savoury cupcake invention. Scope out the reaction to your hard-hitting photography series. With hundreds of Clinkers passing by each day, you’ve got a readymade audience waiting to come check out your concepts. The spaces are available for up to three months at a time, so if you think you’ve got that winning idea that is innovative, creative, Clink and represents the city, please get in touch.
ClinkAIR: Artist in Residence Programme (Amsterdam)
‘Art evokes the mystery without which the world would not exist.’ – Rene Magritte
If you and your art are inseparable bedmates, then this could be the programme for you. ClinkAIR allows artists avail of funding in our cities to cover their stay. Currently we are working with the City of Amsterdam on the ‘3Package Deal’, which is an initiative to stimulate artistic talent and cement Amsterdam as an international city of culture. With their help, along with Amsterdam Fonds voor de Kunst (AFK) and the Bureau Broedplaatsen (BBp), we’re able to offer three artists the opportunity to stay in the hostel, space to create and space to exhibit their work. This is a year- long residency aimed at those looking to seriously develop their art and their artistic processes. You’ll get guidance from experienced artists and your work will be exposed to the thousands of guests that stay in the hostel every year. Ready to take your art to the next level? Speak to us!
‘There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age.’ – Sophia Loren
The way we see it, hostels should be more than just a place to sleep. We set out to develop buildings that are living, breathing spaces that hum with creative activity and human interaction. There’s some unique spaces in our hostels to do all sorts of cool stuff! We run yoga classes with instructors from the local community, we’ve had artists hold workshops to get guests engaging their creative brain. The weird and the wonderful are welcome here (along with the more down to earth!) Bring clown school to our spacious atrium at ClinkNOORD, teach an intimate knitting class in The Library – the world is your oyster! If you’ve got a skill or an idea that you’d like to bring to one of our hostels to share with our guests, then get in touch.
Installations and Gallery Wall
‘The principles of true art is not to portray, but to evoke.’ – Jerzy Kosinski
So you’re an up-and coming artist but you haven’t got anywhere to showcase your work? Step this way, dear friend! ‘Installations’ and ‘Gallery Wall’ provide spaces for emerging artistic talent to display their art and share it with a wider audience. Imagine our hostels as big canvases – our walls and halls are there for the taking! Installations are fixed pieces on the walls (or floors or ceilings!) that will stay in place for a number of months or years and Gallery Wall pieces are canvases or installations which hang temporarily extending a gallery or displaying works that would otherwise have nowhere to be exhibited. Currently in the buildings – a hand-crafted Viking ship sailing through our ClinkNOORD atrium, vibrant geometric murals on the walls of ZincBAR, street styles in the Clink78 kitchen and various canvases from Studio XYZ and Ottograph in the ClinkNOORD café and reception
Stay & Play
‘If music be the food of love, play on.’ – William Shakespeare
For bands and artists hoping to make it in the music industry, touring is the best way to build a fan base and play to new audiences. However, it doesn’t come cheap and that means that some great acts miss out on playing in Europe’s buzzing music capitals. The idea behind Stay & Play is simple – you perform for our guests at one of our in-house bars and we’ll put you up for two nights. To give you a chance to play some other cool spots around the city, we can help sort out discounts on future nights at the hostel. We can’t promise 77+ million record sales, a headline slot at Glastonbury, and a break-up that blows up the internet; but if you’re looking to get some international exposure in some of music’s most important cities, then Stay & Play might be for you.
Take it on tour
‘A lot of people can’t stand touring but to me it’s like breathing. I do it because I’m driven to do it.’ – Bob Dylan
If you’ve been a part of one of our Stay programmes already, chances are we love what you do and we think you deserve to be exposed to a wider audience. That’s where ‘Take it on Tour’ comes in. We love it when musicians and artists (or anyone else who’s shared their talents) stick around in the Clink family. That’s why we encourage anyone who takes part in Stay & Create or Stay & Play in one of our hostels to ‘take it on tour’ and do the same in another one! It’s a great way to get out on the road and reach new audiences. We’re all about making connections between places and people and we love seeing how artists and musicians interact and get inspired by new environments. So why not take it on tour? (and remember to fill us in on all the juicy details from the road!)
Stay & Scribble
‘We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect’ – Anaïs Nin
Got a voice? Then let’s hear it! We’re always on the lookout for writers and bloggers with a fresh take on things to come stay with us and tell their story. Write about your stay, share your hot tips for the city – we want to hear what you’ve got to say. In exchange for your words we’ll set you up with a free or discounted stay at the hostel – depending on your experience. We’ll also share your writing on our social channels for all Clink’s followers to check out. We reckon ‘Travel Writer’ must be right up there on the ‘most-wanted’ jobs list! So if you’ve got the travel bug and are looking to build your writing portfolio, then this is a great way to make it happen. Drop us a line!
Creatives who engage in these programmes will have their information/biography/links clearly displayed. We’ll also showcase projects on the Clink website, social media channels, flyers, email newsletters and press releases.
