Summer is officially here and there’s plenty going on in Amsterdam! From open air cinemas to rooftop music festivals – there’s no excuse to stay inside! Here’s our pick of the best things to do this June …
Tickle your taste buds with a taste of Amsterdam this June. Head along to the beautiful Amstelpark where you’ll have the chance to taste different dishes from Amsterdam’s best chefs and restaurants. All hail these four joyous days of eating, drinking and merriment!
2 to 5 June 2017

A festival like no other, ‘On the roof’ is held on a gorgeous, spacious rooftop in a little known corner of Amsterdam Noord, right under the stars! On summer nights you’ll be able to catch musicians of all creeds and genres, moving from jazz to classical and everything in between. The project is masterminded by musician Felix Hildenbrand who invites musicians to perform that move and fascinate him.

IJ-Hallen is a huge warehouse in Amsterdam’s Noord district that is home to Europe’s biggest flea market. In the summer, when the weather is good, most of the stalls are outside, so bargain hunters can rummage around for treasure in the sunshine. Glorious!
3rd and 4th June 2017
‘De Zon’ means ‘The Sun’ in Dutch and encapsulates what this festival is all about – summer fun, with great vibes and great music. The music is mainly electronic, with acts playing disco, deep house and tropical inspired sounds. The really fun part? Attendees don’t know who they’ll see or her until they show up – the line up is totally secret!

If you’ve ever wondered what the animals get up to when the zoo closes its doors at the end of the day, now is your chance. The ZOOmeravonden (meaning ‘summer evenings’) is a chance to visitors to come and experience the zoo at dusk and enjoy performances by well-known and up-and-coming musicians. Come and let your wild side out – every Saturday in June.

A celebration of Bacchus – the god of the grape harvest, winemaking and wine! Well-known Amsterdam wine merchants present wines from all around the world in a perfect festival setting – Amsterdam Bos (Amsterdam Forest). Whether you’re a total novice or a complete connoisseur, there’s something for all.

Pllek is one of our favourite Amsterdam spots in the summer. Its outdoor beach on the banks of the IJ River is something to behold! This summer, Outdoor Cinema brings you the chance to watch ‘Films with a View’ right here, every Tuesday. You can vote for your favourite movie at www.cine.nl.

During Open Garden Days, however, you’ve got a chance to visit more than 30 of Amsterdam’s beautiful gardens as they open their gates to visitors. Behind the 17th and 18th century houses and some of the cities museums and well-known buildings are hidden green oases that offer a respite from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Architecture Day is all about showcasing new buildings, celebrating new ideas and looking to the future.
