An Indulgent Paradise for Festival-Goers
As most of you will probably know by now, ClinkNOORD’s doors are officially open in Amsterdam’s hip Noord District. The area is packed with creative types and cool venues, including NDSM Werf – a former dock that takes industrial cool to a whole new level. The site plays host to a load of free expositions, a skate park and plenty of festivals and dance parties. Valtifest, one of the hottest dates on Amsterdam’s festival calendar, takes place every first Saturday in September. It’s a feast for the senses which sees the old dockyard transformed into an indulgent paradise for festival-goers dedicated to having a damn good time.
The line-up is varied – you’ll find Dance, House, Dubstep, Electro, Hip-Hop and punk. The one thing the DJ’s all have in common? They all know how to get you dancing! Valtifest is a real knees-up so except to expend plenty of energy shaking your tail feather …
‘The Most Diverse Festival Audience in the History of the Universe’
Known as the ‘wild child’ of Amsterdam’s festival scene, there’s a different, usually wacky, theme every year and attendees take this very seriously. The Organisers’ ambition with regards to attendees’ attire is admirable: ‘This year we aim to have the most diverse festival audience in the history of the universe.’ Past years have seen themes such as ‘Unleashed’, ‘All in the Family’ ‘and ‘Seaven Deadly Sins.’ This year, the theme is ‘Folklore’ with organisers describing the dress code as chance for festival-goers to dive headfirst into a place where ‘Balinese dancers can wear cowboy boots and Indian gurus can wear kilts … a great folk melting pot to be shared as one sizzling, transcending whole.’ We love how simultaneously mad and glorious that sounds and can’t wait to see what kind of costumes emerge on the day.
Festival Vibes
Valtifest’s values are true to the culturally rich area it inhabits. Organised by MTV and Meubuul Stukken, its intention is to breed creativity and encourage innovation in fashion and music. Alongside the eclectic range of DJ’s you’ll also find corners of the festival dedicated to showcasing the best up and coming sartorial talent. Nearly anything goes at Valtifest so you’ll also find members of the general public showcasing their own creativity in nearly every way imaginable! There’s various different tents dotted around the festival, each with their own unique vibe, so you can wander round and enjoy the weird and wonderful sights you’re bound to encounter.
The perfect end to Amsterdam’s Festival Season
Valtifest is the perfect close to Amsterdam’s festival season. Bold and flamboyant, the atmosphere at NDSM Werf is always electric when Valtifest rolls around. If you’ve ever dreamt of a place where you can wear whatever you want for the day, then Valtifest is the place to do it – let your imagination run wild and your spirit run free!
