It’s the most wonderful time of the year! And London certainly has its fair share of Christmas activities to keep you filled with cheer and mulled wine over the festive season. There’s Christmas markets popping up all over the city. Just the sight of those little glowing huts is enough to fill us with mountains of joy. It’s the perfect opportunity to warm your cockles with a mug of mulled wine and pick up some unique Christmas presents. There’s plenty of other wonderful winter activities around the city too, once you’re all shopped out. There’s the famous Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, of course, but we like the new kid on the block, Winterville. We took three backpackers to some of our favourite festive attractions in the city and you can check out their day in our What’s Up! London Christmas special.
London Bridge City Christmas Market
This charming little market offers a winning combination of homemade gifts and delicious food. Independent traders inhabit the German-style chalets, selling street food, Christmas cocktails, mulled wine and hot cider along with handmade crafts. All this with a great view of the river Thames, Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. There’s also a programme of film screenings, live music and entertainment which will be running alongside the market so check out the website for details.

Forget Winter Wonderland, we reckon it’s all about Winterville this year. This East London festive playground returns for its second year and doesn’t disappoint. Lose yourself in the enchanted forest where there’ll be screenings of classic Christmas films, try your putting skills on the Crazy Golf course, (faced with snow drifts, ice beast and foggy valleys!) and entertain yourself in the sensational Spiegel tent. Get some shopping in at the Bizarre Bazaar, a Victorian themed market, and feast on an eclectic choice of street food in the heated food hall. Wash it all down with a cheeky drink at Bar Humbug! There’s also ice skating and fairground rides a-plenty, so you’ll be spoiled for choice. You’ll need to book ahead for certain activities so head to the Winterville Website for more details.
