The winter months are cold and dark enough without the joy of a little booze and some good food. Here’s our pick of the best spots in Amsterdam to indulge …

Cannibale Royale

Cannibale Royale

Meat, meat and more meat is what you’ll find at Cannibale Royale (and a little salad if you’re in the market for a bit of greenery to balance out the protein). The ‘Le Cannibale Royale’ burger, with sauerkraut, cheddar, roasted pulled pork, fried onions and bourbon flavoured barbeque sauce, is surely enough to tempt the most devout of New Year dieters. They’ve just opened up a new joint so there’s now two heavenly locations in Amsterdam to get your meaty fix.

Bakers and Roasters

Bakers-and-roasters

Brunch or lunch at Bakers and Roasters is mainly a lesson in decadence, unless you opt for the ‘Power Breakfast’ (perfect for gym bunnies) or the ‘Angel’s Salad’ (one for the veggie lovers). The Banana Nut Bread French toast, topped with bacon and home-made banana marmalade, is one way to consume most of your daily calories in one dish, which sounds like the perfect antithesis to the general trend for New Year’s depravation. You can even indulge in a cocktail or two, two accompany your feast. After all, if you’re going to have a blow out, you may as well go the whole hog!

Feijoa

feijoa-amsterdam

Known as Amsterdam ‘bartenders bar,’ this is the place to head if you really want to catch up on all the drinking you haven’t been doing since New Year’s Eve. Hallelujah! There’s so many bottles in this place, they are literally stacked on shelves that reach to the ceiling – so a ladder is necessary to reach the ones at the top of the rack. Don’t be fooled by the casual, laid back vibes during the earlier part of the evening, once it hits 3am and the city’s bar staff roll in from their shifts, that’s when things get really lively.

Winkel 43

Winkel 43

There’s plenty of places to go in Amsterdam for a spot of Apple Pie when the afternoon rolls around (a proper Dutch tradition) and we think there’s no better place to tuck into this buttery, apple goodness than at Winkel 43.
