From street parties and live music to fireworks, Oliebollen and Champagne, new years in Amsterdam is a truly spectacular affair. The Dutch certainly know how to celebrate! But with so many fantastic events and street parties to choose from, it can be a little tricky when deciding where to go. So to make things easier for you, here are a few of our favourite things to do on New Years Eve in Amsterdam.

If you’re looking for a good time this NYE but don’t fancy leaving the comfort of ClinkNOORD (we don’t blame you we love it there too) don’t panic, we know a thing or two about throwing a party! Get on your dancing shoes and your favourite party outfit and pop down to the ZincBAR for a good old fashioned knees up. There will be live music, beer pong and probably a few dodgy dance moves… Did someone say shots?!

ZincBAR will be open from 4 pm – 3 am with live music and beer pong from 6 pm.

Night Clubs and Parties

With everything from black tie events to warehouse raves and street parties, revellers are spoilt for choice when it comes to celebrating New Years Eve in Amsterdam. The Dutch capital is renowned for its world-famous nightlife and party scene. From glitzy and exclusive nightclubs to grungy basement raves, the city is overflowing with places to party! Be warned though, clubbing on NYE in Amsterdam can be an expensive affair. So with that in mind, we’ve shortlisted some club nights that we think are worth every penny!

Shoom!: NYE 2018 at Paradiso

Three decades after their debut party, Danny Rampling’s Balearic-influenced club night Shoom is returning to Amsterdam for New Years Eve 2018. Think acid-house, strobes, confetti, whistles, and sirens. A proper taste of Dutch nightlife! Get your tickets here!

Shelter: NYE with Jasper James, DJ Bone, William Djoko, Carlos Valdes

Hidden away in the basement of the former shell tower, this underground nightclub wins the award for coolest club entrance. Just like something out of James Bond, the only access point to the club is via a small hatch in the ground. It is also one of only two clubs in Amsterdam that hold a 24-hour license, so for those who want to party until the break of dawn, Shelter is the place for you! Get your tickets here!

De Marktkatine: The Gardens of Babylon presents a very special New Year’s Eve

De Marketkatine is pulling out all the stops this year NYE by collaborating with party extraordinaires The Gardens of Babylon.  Known for their mystical and dreamlike events, this Dutch team use Techno and Deep house to get the dancefloor pumping! Get your tickets here!

Street Parties and Firework displays

If clubbing isn’t your thing or if you prefer a more spontaneous evening, why not head down to one of Amsterdam’s main squares (Dam Square, Rembrandtplein, Nieuwmarkt, Leidseplein) and soak up the madness! You’ll find legions of celebratory Amsterdammers huddling together to bring in the new year, along with beer tents, food stalls, live music and lots of fireworks. If you prefer to avoid the crowds but are still keen to catch a glimpse of some fireworks, then grab a hot chocolate or a glass of mulled wine and head to the banks of the river Amstel. From here you can see almost all the fireworks above the city. The beautiful Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge) is one of the best spots for a more relaxing view!

Things to remember…

Amsterdam public transportation stops at around 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, and only limited bus services resume around midnight. Fortunately, the ferry from Amsterdam’s Centraal to ‘Veer Buiksloterweg’ runs every 7 minutes (15 minuetes during the night) throughout NYE and only takes 3 minutes. From the boat, ClinkNOORD is only 400m away.
