The Best Vegan Restaurants in London (2023)
Once upon a time being vegan meant ordering the only nonmeat dish on a menu, but not anymore! Restaurants, cafés and street food stalls specialising in plant-based cuisine appear to be popping up all over the UK capital, so we thought we had better see what all the fuss is about … Here’s our guide to the best vegan restaurants in London.
1. Mooshies – Shoreditch
Where? 104 Brick Ln, Spitalfields, London E1 6RL, UK
Why go? Vegan burgers that will leave you wondering why you’re not a full-time vegan
Kicking off our guide to the best vegan food in London is healthy junk food restaurant, Mooshies. Located in the hipster hotspot of Shoreditch, this plant-based burger bar is the brainchild of two passionate vegans, John and Nelly. With their goal to save the environment one burger at a time, the dynamic duo is dead set on providing Londoners with the finest, ethically produced vegan burgers. We recommend their Whats Your Beef Burger, which features an organic quinoa and black bean patty topped with caramelised onions and vegan cheese.
2. WILDFLOWER Peckham Levels
Where? Peckham Levels, 95A Rye Lane, London SE15 4ST
Why go? For tasty, Mediterranean and Asian vegan cuisine
As well as serving super tasty veggie salads and daily specials, this vegetarian/vegan canteen also hosts live music and DJ events. Wildflower, located in the very popular Peckham Levels, shares its space with Ghost Notes, a South London music venue. After tucking into some veggie and vegan delights, you can enjoy Ghost notes live music program which promises a broad range of musical styles – all influenced by Jazz, Soul and improvised music.
3. What the Fattoush? at Pamala Bar
Where? 428 Kingsland Rd, London E8 4AA, UK
Why go? For a taste of middle eastern food with an ethical background
What the Fattoush? founders Meg and Jess discovered their love for Middle Eastern cuisine whilst volunteering in refugee camps across Europe and Palestine. On their return to the UK, they discovered that lots of other people had a passion for Palestinian vegan food! Following their discovery, they decided to sack in the day jobs and go full time! The pair put on vegan events throughout London and now have a full term residency at east London’s vegan hangout, Pamela. Be sure to check out their Batata Harare (spicy sauteed cubes of potato) and their roast squash, both are delicious!
4. What The Pitta?
- 89-91 Bayham Street – Camden
- Boxpark Croydon – Unit 9
- Boxpark Shoreditch – Unit 52
Why go? A meatless Kebab that rivals your favorite late night Doner
What the Pitta? specializes in vegan junk food that is flavorsome, healthy and environmentally friendly – no small feat for a pop-up street food stall. Typically when a vegan dish attempts to rival their meat-based equivalent they fall short of the mark. However, that is not the case with What the Pittas plant-based Doner. The yummy vegan kebab has left many wondering how something void of meat could be so tasty. But don’t just take our word for it, go and try it for yourself.
Where? 139 King’s Cross Road London WC1X 9BJ
